Serves 8
Ingredients:
2 cans apple pie filling
1 yellow cake mix
1 cup butter, melted
1/4 cup cinnamon sugar
Directions:
1. Spread apple pie filling in the bottom of a 9″X13″ pan
2. Sprinkle, or, dump-and-spread, dry cake mix over the apples
3. Drizzle melted butter over cake mix
4. Bake at 350 for about 45 minutes or until the top is lightly browned
5. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar
This is very simple, but an absolutely safe, recipe that I learned as a Boy Scout on troop camp-outs. I still enjoy cooking it over an open fire in cast iron, and sharing it with my grandsons. We love this served warm with ice cream or cool whip, and the cinnamon sugar gives it just the tiniest little bit of crunch. If you want to make a thicker cake, simply double the recipe.
