Creamy Caramel Topping

Bread Pudding with Caramel Sauce

1 packed cup medium or dark brown sugar
1/2 cup half-and-half
4 tablespoons butter, room temperature
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon vanilla

1. In a saucepan over medium-low heat, combine the brown sugar, half-and-half, butter and salt
2. Whisk slowly to keep the mixture moving for 5 to 7 minutes, until it begins to thicken
3. Add the vanilla and cook until it thickens to the desired consistently
4. Remove from the heat, cool, and refrigerate until time to serve
5. Can be served cold or reheated as desired
