Makes 2 1/2 dozen cookies
Ingredients:
1 cup shortening, room temperature
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
2 3/4 cup flour
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
2 Tbsp sugar & 2 tsp cinnamon, combined
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400 F
2. Combine 2 Tbsp sugar with cinnamon in a dinner plate and set aside
3. Cream shortening, sugar, eggs & vanilla in a mixing bowl
4. Combine all remaining dry ingredients and stir to combine thoroughly
5. Roll the dough into 2″ balls
6. Drop each ball of dough into the sugar-cinnamon mix to roll about to coat evenly
7. Place each ball on an ungreased cookie sheet using 2″ spacing
8, Bake 8-10 minutes or until they just begin to brown
This recipe resulted from sweet treating our grandchildren. I experimented with adding a little vanilla extract to the dough and discovered that the children liked them even more than the original. Now, its fun passing this little bit of our history on to our grandchildren. In this photo our youngest grandson adds the necessary elbow grease to create this quick and easy treat.
